The joy of writing a profile about yourself - something that is always fraught with danger. Since you are on this site too I am sure the following will be familiar: -

Make sure you say enough so potential partners have something to pick up on and bring up in an opening message...

...but say too much and they'll get bored halfway through and not bother.

Make sure you make yourself out to be attractive, whatever we claim to the majority of us looks are important...

...but overstate your looks and you will come across as conceited and not worth pursuing.

Make sure you write something witty and clever - potential partners always say they are looking for someone funny and intelligent...

...but not if they come across as wacky rather than witty and pretentious rather than clever (oh and never use the word pretentious in a profile, it's pretentious to do so!)

Make sure you say marriage is important to you, show that you are looking for something long-term...

but they'll think "she's thinking marriage already, but we haven't even met yet !!"

Make sure you say you'll travel for the right person...

but they live where ?! Why did I ever agree to see someone three counties away ?

Make sure you say you have an active social life to sound interesting...

but they'll think "Help, I can't keep up with that (oh and why are they always logged on here if that is the case anyway ?)"


Why do we put ourselves through it ? Well if we can meet the right person then it makes it all worth it. I'm not sure who that is for me as (thankfully) never worked out what my ideal type is. If forced to say then someone who I am attracted to on a mental as well as physical level; who I can enjoy a bit of banter and the occasional debate with; and who lives in Hertfordshire or surrounding area . If you think that could be you would be good to hear from you.
